The ProSoft PLX31-PND-MBS4 is a standalone DIN-rail mounted protocol gateway equipped with four independent isolated serial ports, designed for bidirectional cyclic and acyclic data exchange between PROFINET controllers and Modbus serial RTU or ASCII devices. It operates as a PROFINET Class A IO device on the PROFINET side, and each of the four serial channels can be independently set as Modbus master or slave to connect power meters, flow transmitters, temperature controllers, variable frequency drives and other legacy Modbus serial instruments to Siemens PROFINET PLC systems. Every serial port supports software-selectable RS232, RS422 and RS485 interfaces, with adjustable baud rate from 110 baud to 115.2 kbps, parity, data bits and stop bits to match different field peripheral requirements. It supports standard Modbus function codes and flexible floating-point data conversion including Enron and Daniel float formats, and the PROFINET channel supports real-time RT cyclic communication with 1440 bytes input and 1440 bytes output data capacity to meet large-volume data exchange needs. Each serial channel runs independently, so communication failure on one port will not affect the normal operation of the other three channels. It is equipped with an SD card slot for configuration backup and fast recovery during hardware replacement, which effectively shortens on-site downtime. Users complete data mapping, polling schedule and alarm configuration through ProSoft Configuration Builder software. The gateway runs independently of the PLC scan cycle, so protocol conversion and serial polling will not occupy controller resources or interfere with the original control logic. It provides comprehensive diagnostic tags for PROFINET connection status, serial message counters, timeout and fault codes, which can be read by the PROFINET controller and displayed on HMI or SCADA for fast troubleshooting. A conformal coated version is optional for humid, dusty and corrosive industrial environments. This gateway adopts rugged metal housing for DIN rail installation. It has one galvanically isolated 10/100Mbps shielded RJ45 Ethernet port and four terminal block serial ports, and accepts 10VDC to 36VDC wide-range DC power supply with 24VDC nominal input. LED indicators display power status, module fault, Ethernet link, PROFINET connection and serial TX/RX activity for convenient on-site inspection. The operating temperature range is -25°C to 70°C, storage temperature ranges from -40°C to 80°C, relative humidity 5% to 95% non-condensing. It complies with IEC industrial shock, vibration and EMC standards, and has obtained PROFINET Class A certification. It supports remote configuration, online firmware upgrade and configuration backup for long-term field maintenance.
