The ProSoft MVI94-GSC is a single-slot generic ASCII serial communication module designed for Rockwell 1794 FLEX I/O backplane system. It helps FlexLogix, ControlLogix, SLC 500 and PLC-5 processors connect with various ASCII serial devices, including barcode scanners, weighing scales, serial printers, operator terminals and other third-party serial instruments, without occupying the processor’s native serial port. This module comes with two serial ports. The application port supports jumper-selectable RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 signals, suitable for point-to-point or multi-drop field wiring. The second configuration debug port is RS-232, used for parameter setup, status checking, firmware maintenance and serial data capture. Users can independently configure baud rate, parity, data bits, stop bits, handshake mode and data termination rules for the communication port, supporting baud rates from 110bps up to 115200bps. It can receive up to 4096 characters of continuous data and transmit segmented ASCII messages to serial devices. The module exchanges data with the PLC processor through FLEX I/O backplane block transfer, and simple ladder logic is enough for data reading and writing. It supports common FLEX adapters such as 1794-ACN15, 1794-ADN and 1794-ASB, adapting to ControlNet, DeviceNet and remote I/O networks. The built-in diagnostic function monitors port communication status, error counters and module health, and engineers can capture serial frames through the debug port to quickly locate communication faults. The module runs independently of the PLC scan cycle, so ASCII data transmission and reception will not affect the normal control logic of the host processor. A conformal coated version is optional for humid, dusty and corrosive industrial environments. This legacy module is widely used in packaging, logistics weighing, material handling and old production line renovation projects.

This module matches standard 1794 FLEX I/O base and installs on FLEX backplane. It draws 20mA current from the 5V backplane, and supports external 12V to 24VDC power supply. LED indicators display module status, backplane activity and serial port transmit/receive signals for on-site inspection. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 60°C, storage temperature ranges from -40°C to 85°C, relative humidity 5% to 95% non-condensing. It complies with industrial shock and vibration specifications and has obtained UL and CE certifications. It supports offline configuration saving and on-site backup for easy replacement and recovery.
