The ProSoft PLX31-EIP-ASCII4 is a standalone DIN-rail protocol gateway with four independent serial ports, designed for bidirectional communication between EtherNet/IP controllers and multiple ASCII serial devices. It is compatible with Rockwell ControlLogix, CompactLogix and other EtherNet/IP PACs, and can connect weighing instruments, barcode scanners, analytical meters, serial printers and other third-party ASCII equipment simultaneously. Each serial port supports software-selectable RS232, RS422 and RS485 interfaces, with adjustable baud rate, parity, data bits and stop bits to match different peripheral requirements. The gateway can be configured as client or server, supporting string framing, delimiter identification, data parsing and mapping between raw ASCII messages and EtherNet/IP CIP data tables. It maintains one Class 1 EtherNet/IP I/O connection with 248 bytes input and 248 bytes output, and the EDS add-on profile can be imported directly into Studio 5000 or RSLogix 5000 to simplify commissioning work. An SD card slot is reserved for storing configuration files, which supports fast backup and one-click recovery when replacing the hardware. Users complete point mapping, command sequence setup and diagnostic parameter configuration via ProSoft Configuration Builder software. Each serial channel runs independently, so the failure of one port will not affect the communication of the other three channels. The gateway runs asynchronously outside the PLC scan cycle, so ASCII parsing and serial polling will not occupy controller resources or disrupt the original control logic. Rich diagnostic tags are provided for serial port status, message counter, timeout and error flags, which can be displayed on HMI and SCADA systems for quick fault location. This compact gateway adopts rugged metal housing for DIN rail installation.
