Product Details

The ProSoft MVI71-DNP is a single-slot DNP3.0 serial communication module designed for Rockwell SLC 500 rack systems, complying with DNP3 Level 2 specification with partial Level 3 function support. It can be configured as DNP3 master or slave to connect SLC 500 processors with remote terminal units, protective relays, power meters and other intelligent electronic devices widely deployed in power, water and oil gas SCADA systems. It features two isolated application serial ports, each supporting RS232, RS422 and RS485 via jumper selection, and users can adjust baud rate, parity and framing parameters to match different field serial bus settings. The module supports core DNP3 functions including analog value collection, binary status upload, counter data recording, event reporting, time synchronization and remote control operation. It can manage abundant point data inside local database, offering flexible mapping between DNP3 device points and SLC 500 data files. A dedicated RS232 configuration port is reserved for configuration file download, online diagnosis and real-time communication debugging. The module exchanges data with SLC 500 processor through BTR and BTW instructions over the backplane, and the DNP polling and event response processing runs asynchronously, so it will not occupy PLC scan cycle and interfere with real-time control logic. Sample ladder logic is provided for RSLogix 500, and users edit point lists, polling schedules and communication parameters through configuration files in ProSoft Configuration Builder. This module is discontinued and supplied as spare parts for legacy SLC 500 SCADA systems.

This module fits standard SLC 500 racks and consumes 800mA at 5VDC from the backplane. It supports hot-swappable operation for on-site replacement without shutting down the whole automation rack. LED indicators display module power status, backplane transfer activity, serial transmit/receive signals and communication fault alarms for fast on-site inspection and troubleshooting. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 60°C, storage temperature ranges from -40°C to 85°C, with 5% to 95% non-condensing humidity tolerance. It meets industrial shock and vibration standards and adopts optical isolation between serial ports and backplane, with reliable EMC protection against surge and electrostatic interference for substation and outdoor SCADA cabinet sites. It supports configuration backup and firmware upgrade for routine maintenance.

This DNP3 serial master/slave module is widely used in power substation automation, water treatment SCADA, oil and gas pipeline monitoring and energy distribution control renovation projects. It brings native DNP3 serial connectivity to SLC 500 without external protocol converters, helping users integrate legacy Rockwell PLC into DNP3 SCADA networks. As a discontinued legacy communication module, the MVI71-DNP is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for running automation systems. It maintains stable DNP3 serial data transmission, preserves the original field IED devices and serial wiring, and reduces the renovation cost of SCADA system upgrade.
