The ProSoft MVI71-DFNT is a single-slot EtherNet/IP communication module designed for Rockwell SLC 500 rack platform, built to enable explicit messaging communication between SLC 500 processors and remote EtherNet/IP compatible controllers, HMIs and automation hosts. It supports both client and server functions simultaneously. As an EtherNet/IP client, it can execute up to 100 configurable read and write commands to access remote network nodes. As a server, it provides 20 independent server connections to receive explicit messaging requests from external master devices on the industrial Ethernet network. It is equipped with one 10/100Mbps auto-crossover RJ45 Ethernet port dedicated for EtherNet/IP communication, and a separate RS232 configuration port for local parameter download, online status monitoring and fault debugging. The module maintains a local user-defined register database for data buffering and flexible mapping between the EtherNet/IP network and SLC 500 data files. The data exchange between the module and SLC processor is completed through BTR and BTW instructions over the backplane, and the communication task runs asynchronously with the PLC scan cycle, so EtherNet/IP message transmission and response processing will not occupy the PLC scan time and interfere with the real-time control logic. Sample ladder logic is supplied for RSLogix 500, and ProSoft Configuration Builder software is used to set connection commands, timeout values and data mapping tables. This module is discontinued, and it is widely used as spare part for legacy SLC 500 automation systems.

This module fits standard SLC 500 rack and consumes 800mA at 5VDC from the backplane. It supports hot-swappable operation for on-site replacement without shutting down the whole automation rack. LED indicators display module power status, backplane communication health, Ethernet link activity and application fault alarms for fast on-site inspection and troubleshooting. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 60°C, storage temperature ranges from -40°C to 85°C, with 5% to 95% non-condensing humidity tolerance. It meets industrial shock and vibration specifications and adopts reliable EMC protection against surge and electrostatic interference for factory automation and process control environments. It supports configuration file backup and firmware upgrade for routine maintenance.

This EtherNet/IP client/server module is widely used in legacy SLC 500 system renovation, production line data exchange, remote HMI monitoring and mixed-brand automation upgrade projects. It brings native EtherNet/IP explicit messaging capability to SLC 500 without external protocol converters, simplifying multi-controller network architecture. As a discontinued legacy module, the MVI71-DFNT is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for running automation systems.
