The ProSoft MVI69-GSC is a single-slot generic ASCII serial communication module designed for Rockwell 1769 CompactLogix and MicroLogix 1500 LRP chassis. It is developed for connecting serial devices that transmit custom ASCII character strings without standard industrial protocols, such as weighing indicators, barcode scanners, serial printers, analyzers and other proprietary serial instruments. It is equipped with two independent configurable serial ports, each port supports RS232, RS422 and RS485 interfaces, and the baud rate ranges from 110 baud to 115200 baud. Users can set parity, data bits, stop bits, termination characters, inter-character timeout and packet size limit separately for each port to match the framing rules of connected serial devices. It supports stream mode and delimiter-based message parsing, and can send and receive long ASCII text strings. A dedicated RS232 configuration port is used for configuration file download, online message monitoring and fault diagnosis. The module maintains a local buffer database to store incoming and outgoing serial string data, and exchanges data with the CompactLogix processor asynchronously over the 1769 backplane. This asynchronous transmission ensures that serial message receiving and sending will not occupy the PLC scan cycle and affect the real-time control logic. It is the legacy version and can be directly replaced by the enhanced MVI69E-GSC. Add-on profile and sample ladder logic are provided for RSLogix 5000, and ProSoft Configuration Builder software is used to configure port parameters, message rules and data mapping.

This module fits standard 1769 racks and draws 800mA at 5VDC from the backplane. It supports hot-swappable operation for on-site replacement without shutting down the whole automation rack. LED indicators display module power status, backplane communication status, serial transmit/receive activity and communication fault alarms for fast on-site inspection and troubleshooting. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 60°C, storage temperature ranges from -40°C to 85°C, with 5% to 95% non-condensing humidity tolerance. It meets industrial shock and vibration standards and adopts reliable EMC protection against surge and electrostatic interference for factory automation and process control environments. It supports configuration file backup and firmware upgrade for routine maintenance.

This generic ASCII serial module is widely used in weighing system data acquisition, packaging machine barcode reading, laboratory analyzer connection, serial printer control and legacy serial equipment renovation projects. It provides native ASCII serial interface inside the CompactLogix rack without external serial protocol converters, suitable for devices with custom text serial communication format. As a discontinued legacy communication module, the MVI69-GSC is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for running automation systems. It maintains stable ASCII serial data transmission, preserves the original field instruments and serial wiring, and reduces the renovation cost of non-standard serial device integration.
