The ProSoft MVI56E-MNET/MNETXT is a single-slot enhanced Modbus TCP/IP communication module designed for Rockwell 1756 ControlLogix chassis. It supports simultaneous Modbus TCP/IP client and server functions, enabling ControlLogix PAC to exchange data with Modbus TCP controllers, transmitters, flow meters, power analyzers and other Ethernet field devices. As a Modbus TCP client, it can establish up to 30 independent TCP connections to read and write remote registers. As a Modbus TCP server, it accepts connection requests from SCADA, HMI and other master hosts to access ControlLogix tag data. The user-configurable internal database supports up to 5000 16-bit registers for flexible data mapping between Modbus network and controller tags. The MVI56E-MNET is the standard version for normal industrial sites, while MVI56E-MNETXT is the rugged conformal coated variant for Logix-XT platforms, built for corrosive, high vibration and extreme temperature environments. It is equipped with one 10/100Mbps auto-crossover RJ45 Ethernet port, integrated web server and CIPconnect technology, supporting remote configuration, online diagnosis and firmware upgrade through EtherNet/IP or ControlNet network. Data exchange between the module and ControlLogix processor runs asynchronously over the backplane, so Modbus TCP polling and response processing will not occupy controller scan time and interfere with real-time control logic. This module is fully backward compatible with the older MVI56-MNET, so users can replace legacy units directly without rewriting existing control programs. Add-on instructions and sample ladder logic are provided for RSLogix 5000 and Studio 5000, and ProSoft Configuration Builder software is used to edit connection lists, register mapping and network parameters.

This module can be installed in local or remote 1756 ControlLogix chassis and draws 800mA at 5VDC from the backplane. It supports hot-swappable operation for on-site replacement without shutting down the whole rack. The front panel has a 4-character scrolling alphanumeric LED display to show IP address, port status and fault prompts for fast on-site inspection and troubleshooting. It supports CF personality card to store complete configuration files, supporting quick recovery and spare module swap. The operating temperature range of MVI56E-MNET is 0°C to 60°C, and MVI56E-MNETXT supports -25°C to 70°C. Both versions adopt industrial EMC protection against surge and electrostatic interference, and meet shock and vibration standards for industrial automation. It supports configuration backup and remote firmware upgrade to reduce maintenance workload.

This Modbus TCP Ethernet communication module is widely used in water treatment, petrochemical, energy monitoring, pipeline SCADA and harsh environment automation renovation projects. It adds native Modbus TCP/IP connectivity to ControlLogix without deploying extra standalone protocol gateways, simplifying cabinet layout and industrial Ethernet networking. As a discontinued legacy module, the MVI56E-MNET/MNETXT is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for running automation systems. It maintains stable bidirectional Modbus TCP/IP data transmission, preserves the original field instruments and network wiring, and reduces the transformation cost of heterogeneous Ethernet device integration.
