The ProSoft MVI56E-MCMR is a single-slot in-chassis communication module designed for Rockwell ControlLogix 1756 rack, built for Modbus RTU and ASCII serial communication with reduced data block, which is optimized for remote rack deployment and limited bandwidth scenarios. It can be configured as Modbus master or Modbus slave independently on dual serial ports, to exchange data between ControlLogix PAC and Modbus field devices such as transmitters, variable frequency drives, power meters, flow meters and third-party PLCs. It supports Enron Modbus floating point format, and the internal register database can hold up to 5000 16-bit registers for flexible data mapping. The module adopts smaller scheduled data blocks, which lowers the backplane communication load compared with standard MCM model, making it suitable for distributed remote chassis control. It is equipped with a 10/100Mbps Ethernet port for configuration, web diagnosis and CIPconnect pass-through access, so users can configure and check module status remotely through the ControlLogix Ethernet module. It also features a 4-character scrolling LED display to show real-time status and alarm messages for fast on-site inspection.

This module installs directly into the 1756 ControlLogix chassis and draws power from the backplane. It supports hot-swappable operation for maintenance without shutting down the whole rack. Users can complete port setting, master command list, data mapping and firmware upgrade via ProSoft Configuration Builder software. Add-on instructions and sample ladder logic are provided for seamless integration inside RSLogix 5000 or Studio 5000. It supplies comprehensive diagnostic information including serial error counters, slave response status and register data view. It has reliable industrial EMC protection against surge and electrostatic interference, with an operating temperature range of 0°C to 60°C, stable for long-time running in factory automation and process control environments.

This Modbus communication module is widely used in water treatment, petrochemical, energy monitoring, packaging machinery and remote I/O rack transformation projects. It adds native Modbus serial connectivity to ControlLogix without separate external gateway, and the reduced data block design improves stability for remote rack communication. As a discontinued legacy module, the MVI56E-MCMR is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for running automation systems.
