Product Details

The ProSoft MVI56E-LDM is a single-slot Linux-based programmable development module built for Rockwell 1756 ControlLogix chassis, designed to run custom C language applications for unique industrial communication and edge computing tasks. It is equipped with a 400MHz ARM9 processor, pre-installed Timesys Linux system, 64MB SDRAM and 256MB NAND flash for local program storage and data buffering. It carries two independent 10/100Mbps Ethernet ports and two isolated serial ports supporting RS232, RS422 and RS485, offering abundant interfaces to connect non-standard field devices, cloud platforms and third-party systems. The official backplane API library allows user programs to directly read and write ControlLogix tag data asynchronously, separating custom application logic from the PLC scan cycle and avoiding interference to the core control program. It provides pre-built sample source code for MQTT, Sparkplug B and ThingWorx, which greatly accelerates the development of IIoT data collection, cloud uploading and edge analytics projects. Users can compile and debug programs through the dedicated Linux virtual machine development environment with Eclipse toolchain.

This module can be installed in local or remote ControlLogix chassis and draws 800mA at 5VDC from the backplane. It supports hot-swappable operation to reduce downtime during on-site replacement. A 4-character scrolling LED screen on the front can display custom status messages and alarm prompts defined by user code. It supports CF card expansion up to 16GB for application backup, data logging and quick personality transfer for spare module swap. The embedded web server and CIPconnect function support remote program maintenance, log checking and diagnostic access over EtherNet/IP. It includes comprehensive diagnostic interfaces for developers to monitor backplane communication status, port traffic and application runtime errors. It adopts fanless industrial hardware design with robust EMC protection against surge and electrostatic interference, operating temperature range from 0°C to 60°C, suitable for factory automation, energy monitoring and remote process control sites. It supports remote firmware upgrade and application package deployment.

This Linux programmable module is widely used in custom proprietary protocol driver development, industrial IoT edge data gateway, cloud connectivity, special algorithm calculation and heterogeneous system integration projects. It adds flexible programmable edge capability inside the ControlLogix rack without deploying separate external industrial computers. As a discontinued legacy module, the MVI56E-LDM is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for running automation systems. It maintains stable execution of customized Linux applications, retains the original field wiring and ControlLogix program architecture, and lowers the renovation cost for special communication requirements.
