Product Details
The ProSoft MVI56E-61850S is a single-slot enhanced in-chassis Ethernet communication module for Rockwell ControlLogix 1756 rack, designed to act as an IEC 61850 server and emulate multiple IED nodes on substation Ethernet networks. It converts ControlLogix tag data including analog measurements, binary status values, control points and alarm events into standard IEC 61850 MMS report data, so that power SCADA masters can access the ControlLogix PAC as a native intelligent electronic device. It supports buffered and unbuffered report control blocks, control operation, data set mapping and timestamped event reporting that comply with IEC 61850 standards. It carries dual isolated 10/100Mbps Ethernet ports, which can be configured for network segmentation or redundant network layout to improve the reliability of substation communication. Data exchange between the module and the ControlLogix processor runs asynchronously over the backplane, so the IEC 61850 reporting service does not affect the controller scan cycle and real-time control logic. It integrates add-on instructions for RSLogix 5000 and Studio 5000, allowing engineers to map tags and monitor module status directly inside the controller programming environment. ProSoft Configuration Builder is used to define IED models, data sets, report parameters and communication access control.
This module fits into standard 1756 ControlLogix chassis and draws power from the backplane. It supports hot-swappable operation for maintenance without shutting down the whole rack. Front LED indicators show backplane health, Ethernet link activity and module fault status for fast on-site inspection and troubleshooting. ProSoft Discovery Service helps users assign IP addresses conveniently without modifying PC subnet settings. It provides rich diagnostic data including connection status, report transmission counters, error logs and real-time data point status. It is built with industrial EMC protection against surge, electrostatic discharge and radio interference, with an operating temperature range of 0°C to 60°C, suitable for high-interference substation, power plant and distribution automation environments. It supports configuration file backup and firmware upgrade for long-term stable operation.
This IEC 61850 server module is widely adopted in power substation automation, distribution network monitoring, transformer and switchgear monitoring, and legacy power control system phased migration projects. It enables ControlLogix to join existing IEC 61850 substation networks without standalone external protocol gateways, helping non-IEC-61850 field devices to be integrated into standard power SCADA systems. As a discontinued legacy communication module, the MVI56E-61850S is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for running power automation systems. It maintains stable IEC 61850 MMS reporting and control interaction, preserves the original SCADA network architecture and field wiring, and reduces the renovation risk and cost of substation digital transformation.
