Product Details
The ProSoft MVI56-BSAPS is a single-slot in-chassis communication module designed for Rockwell ControlLogix 1756 rack, functioning as a Bristol Babcock serial slave interface to connect ControlLogix controllers to legacy Bristol Babcock DCS systems. It responds to read and write requests from Bristol Babcock master hosts over serial lines, exchanging analog values, discrete status points, string data and alarm information between the ControlLogix backplane and the Bristol Babcock network. It supports up to 255 analog input points, 255 logical input points and 30 string registers, which can be mapped freely according to the requirements of the old DCS system. The module provides two independent application serial ports that support RS232, RS422 and RS485 electrical interfaces, with baud rate adjustable from 110 to 115200 baud, and configurable parity, data bits, stop bits and RTS timing to match the original Bristol communication settings. Data exchange between the module and ControlLogix processor runs asynchronously, so the serial communication process will not affect the main control scan cycle of the PAC.
This module can be installed in local or remote 1756 ControlLogix chassis and draws 800mA at 5VDC from the backplane. It supports hot-swappable operation for convenient maintenance without shutting down the whole rack. Front LED indicators display module health, backplane transfer status, application communication status and serial transmit/receive activity for fast on-site troubleshooting. Users can configure slave address, point list and serial parameters via text configuration files downloaded through the configuration port. Complete sample ladder logic for RSLogix 5000 or Studio 5000 is supplied to simplify tag mapping and data synchronization. It provides detailed diagnostic data including serial error counters, master connection status and real-time register value view. It adopts industrial EMC protection design against surge and electrostatic interference, with an operating temperature range of 0°C to 60°C, suitable for long-term stable operation in petrochemical, power plant and process control sites. It supports configuration backup and firmware upgrade for routine maintenance.
This Bristol Babcock slave communication module is widely used in legacy Bristol Babcock DCS upgrade, phased system migration, petrochemical process control and cross-brand control system interconnection projects. It enables ControlLogix to act as a standard slave node on the existing Bristol Babcock serial network, eliminating the need to replace the original DCS master equipment in one step. As a discontinued legacy module, the MVI56-BSAPS is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for running automation systems. It maintains stable Bristol Babcock serial slave communication, preserves the original DCS host and field wiring, and reduces the risk and cost of large-scale DCS transformation.
