Product Details
The ProSoft MVI56-BAS is a single-slot programmable communication module designed for Rockwell ControlLogix 1756 chassis, equipped with BASIC-52 runtime environment to support custom serial communication logic development. It comes with three built-in ports: DH-485 port, Port 1 for generic ASCII, and Port 2 configurable for ASCII or DF1 protocol. Users can write customized BASIC programs to parse non-standard ASCII strings, implement private device protocols, data conversion and message forwarding tasks that cannot be covered by fixed protocol modules. The module provides 24065 bytes of RAM for program operation and data buffering, and the BASIC application programs are stored on compact flash card for convenient backup, copy and automatic execution after power-up. It can exchange data with the ControlLogix processor asynchronously through the backplane, separating custom serial communication processing from the main PLC scan cycle, so special parsing logic will not interfere with the normal control program. It supports DF1 half-duplex and full-duplex communication through BASIC function calls, and can read and write data with legacy Rockwell controllers such as PLC-5 and SLC.
This module is installed directly into the standard 1756 ControlLogix chassis and powered by the backplane. It supports hot-swappable operation for on-site maintenance without stopping the whole rack. Front LED indicators display backplane status, serial port transmit, receive and module fault status, helping engineers quickly judge communication status and troubleshoot abnormal bus signals. Users can write and debug BASIC code on PC, then download the program to the flash storage of the module. Sample ladder logic for RSLogix 5000 or Studio 5000 is provided to realize data mapping between module internal buffer and controller tags. It supplies diagnostic information including program running status, serial error counters and message logs. It adopts industrial EMC protection design against surge and electrostatic interference, with an operating temperature range of 0°C to 60°C, adapting to factory automation, building equipment and legacy equipment integration environments. It supports firmware upgrade and configuration backup for stable long-term running.
This programmable BASIC communication module is widely used for connecting old instruments with proprietary ASCII protocols, custom serial data conversion, legacy Rockwell DF1 network interconnection, and special equipment communication transformation projects. It provides flexible programming capability for ControlLogix to communicate with devices without standard protocol modules, avoiding customized hardware development and complex external gateway deployment. As a discontinued legacy module, the MVI56-BAS is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for running automation systems. It maintains stable execution of custom BASIC communication logic, preserves the original serial field devices and wiring, and reduces the renovation cost of special protocol integration.
