The ProSoft MVI56-103M is a single-slot in-chassis communication module designed for Rockwell ControlLogix 1756 rack, developed for power substation IEC 60870-5-103 protocol communication. It acts as an IEC 103 master device to collect measurement data, protection alarms, event records and status signals from protective relays, circuit breakers and other intelligent electronic devices in power systems. The module is equipped with two independent serial master ports, each port can be configured as RS232, RS422 or RS485 interface according to field wiring requirements. It supports up to 32 controlled IED nodes on dual ports, and supports time synchronization, general interrogation and multi-sector data grouping functions that meet power industry standards. The internal register database stores all acquired data, and data is exchanged with the ControlLogix processor through the backplane, which will not affect the normal scan cycle of the main controller. It uses text configuration files for parameter setting, and supports custom command lists for polling and event collection of protection equipment.

This module is directly installed in the standard 1756 ControlLogix chassis and powered by the backplane. It supports hot-swappable operation for convenient maintenance without shutting down the whole rack. Front LED indicators display backplane communication status, serial transmit, receive and module fault status for fast on-site inspection and troubleshooting. Users can complete port configuration, IED parameter setup and firmware upgrade through ProSoft Configuration Builder software, and sample ladder logic for Studio 5000 or RSLogix 5000 is provided to reduce programming workload. It provides complete diagnostic data including IED offline alarms, communication error counters and timestamped event logs. It adopts industrial-grade EMC design for high-interference substation environments, with an operating temperature range of 0°C to 60°C, suitable for long-term stable operation in power automation sites. It supports configuration file backup and flash firmware upgrade.

This IEC 103 master module is widely used in substation monitoring, distribution automation, power plant auxiliary control and legacy power control system renovation projects. It enables ControlLogix PAC to directly connect with IEC 103 protection devices without additional external protocol converters, simplifying the serial communication architecture of substation monitoring systems. As a discontinued legacy communication module, the MVI56-103M is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for running power automation systems. It maintains stable IEC 60870-5-103 serial data transmission, retains the original relay and IED field wiring, and reduces the reconstruction cost of power monitoring systems.
