The ProSoft MVI46-MBP is a single-slot in-chassis communication module designed for Rockwell 1746 SLC 500 racks, enabling SLC processors to connect directly to Modbus Plus peer-to-peer industrial network. It supports both master and slave functions on the Modbus Plus bus, allowing bidirectional data exchange between SLC 500 PLC and Schneider Modicon controllers, variable frequency drives, power meters and other Modbus Plus compatible field devices. The module has a built-in 4000-word register database for data buffering and mapping. It exchanges data with SLC processor asynchronously via M0/M1 backplane files, separating the Modbus Plus network communication from SLC program scan to avoid affecting the main control logic. It uses standard Modbus Plus MSTR read and write commands to access remote node registers, and works as a peer node on the Modbus Plus network.

This module fits into the standard 1746 SLC chassis and draws 800mA at 5VDC from the backplane. It only supports local and extended racks and cannot be deployed in remote I/O racks. It requires SLC 5/02 or higher processors with M0/M1 file support. Front LED indicators display backplane status, Modbus Plus network activity and module fault status for quick on-site troubleshooting. Configuration is completed by downloading text configuration files, and ready-to-use sample ladder logic is provided for RSLogix 500 to reduce programming workload. It provides complete diagnostic information including node communication error counters, remote device response status and real-time register data view. It adopts industrial-grade EMC design to resist surge and electrostatic interference, with an operating temperature range of 0°C to 60°C, suitable for factory automation, process control and legacy Schneider system integration environments. It supports configuration backup and firmware upgrade for stable long-term operation.

This Modbus Plus communication module is widely used in packaging lines, water treatment, petrochemical, power monitoring and old mixed control system renovation projects. It adds native Modbus Plus connectivity to SLC 500 without extra independent protocol converters, simplifying the interconnection between Rockwell and Schneider control platforms. As a discontinued legacy module, the MVI46-MBP is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for running automation systems. It maintains stable peer-to-peer Modbus Plus data transmission, preserves the original Modbus Plus network wiring and field devices, and reduces the transformation cost of cross-brand PLC interconnection.
