Product Details
The XYCOM XVME-979/4 is a discontinued 6U double-height VMEbus mass storage subsystem, one variant of the XVME-979 series, integrated with 24X CD-R/W optical drive, 2.5-inch EIDE hard disk bay and external floppy connector for XVME-9000-EXF external floppy drive. It is designed exclusively for XYCOM XVME-65x and XVME-66x series Intel PC/AT VME single board computers, and cannot operate independently. It receives EIDE ATAPI and floppy signals from host CPU via VME P2 backplane connector, and can be deployed together with XVME-977 storage module in the same chassis.
This module adopts EIDE ATAPI interface, supports PIO Mode 4 and DMA Mode 2, peak transfer rate up to 16.6MB/s. The CD-R/W drive supports CD reading and burning, multi-session CD, photo CD and video CD formats, which is convenient for industrial program backup, configuration archiving and data export. The built-in 2.5-inch IDE hard disk provides local persistent storage for system boot, control logic and historical field data. The external floppy port retains compatibility with legacy 1.44MB floppy media for old commissioning tools. It is compatible with DOS, Windows and classic real-time operating systems, no special driver required for standard ATAPI devices. The onboard power regulation circuit takes power from VME P1 and P2 connectors, equipped with EMC filter and surge suppression components to reduce backplane noise and interference from inverters and servo drives.
Users need to confirm host CPU model, P2 pin definition and IDE master-slave jumper settings before installation. When used alongside XVME-977, IDE device master and slave relationships must be assigned properly to avoid resource conflict. The front panel has optical drive access window and activity LED indicators, showing power status, CD read/write and hard disk working state for quick inspection during commissioning and routine maintenance. The mechanical structure uses vibration reinforcement design, suitable for continuous operation in power plant monitoring, chemical control systems, aerospace test benches and automated test equipment. This legacy storage module is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for existing XYCOM VME automation racks. Users need to test optical burning performance and verify BIOS compatibility before deployment. A conformal coated version is optional for high humidity, dusty and corrosive industrial sites. This model is widely used in legacy VME control system renovation projects for local storage, program upgrade and secure data backup.
This CD-RW and hard disk mass storage module adopts standard 6U double-height VME rack mount structure. It draws power from the VME backplane. LED indicators display power status and drive activity for convenient on-site inspection. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 65°C, storage temperature ranges from -40°C to +85°C, relative humidity 5% to 95% non-condensing. It complies with industrial shock, vibration and EMC standards and has CE certifications. It supports IDE master-slave jumper configuration backup for fast recovery after hardware replacement.
This XYCOM XVME-979/4 storage module is widely applied in legacy VME control racks and industrial automation upgrade projects. It integrates CD-R/W burner, IDE hard disk and external floppy interface for matched XVME-65x/66x VME SBC to realize local storage and optical data backup. As a reliable discontinued spare part, the XYCOM XVME-979/4 retains original EIDE ATAPI signal timing compatibility, and effectively reduces the renovation cost of legacy industrial control system maintenance.
