Product Details

The XYCOM XVME-956 is a discontinued 6U double-height VMEbus PC/AT I/O expansion carrier, specially developed for XYCOM XVME-67x and XVME-68x series PC/AT compatible VME single board computers, used to expand rich peripheral functions for the host CPU board. It does not carry its own processor, and must be matched with the compatible VME SBC to work normally. The carrier is equipped with two PC/104 expansion sockets, adopting pin-and-socket connection design instead of card edge connectors, which improves the reliability of vibration environment in industrial racks.

It supports a series of dedicated daughter submodules, including XVME-956/101 memory expansion board, XVME-956/400 serial and parallel I/O board, XVME-956/402 AT-SCSI controller board, XVME-956/411 10Mbps Ethernet board, and it also supports third-party standard PC/104 modules. After installing the sub-boards, all expanded resources are mapped to the PC/AT I/O address space of the host CPU, which can be directly identified by DOS and classic real-time operating systems without complex driver development. It has two versions: XVME-956/1 and XVME-956/12, the /12 version is aimed at the CPU board with native PC/104 site on the backplane. The front panel reserves lead-out interfaces for submodules, convenient for on-site wiring and debugging.

Users need to confirm the host CPU revision, submodule type and jumper setting before installation to avoid I/O address and interrupt resource conflicts. The onboard power filtering and surge suppression circuits reduce electromagnetic interference from inverters and servo drives, ensuring stable communication between the host and expansion peripherals. The PCB and mechanical structure adopt industrial vibration-resistant design. The front panel status indicators help maintenance personnel quickly check the working state of expansion peripherals during commissioning and daily inspection. This legacy expansion carrier is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for existing XYCOM VME automation racks. Users need to verify the compatibility of submodules and host firmware before deployment. A conformal coated version is optional for high humidity, dusty and corrosive industrial sites. This model is widely used in old VME control system transformation projects to add network, SCSI storage, multi-serial port and extended memory functions.

This PC/AT I/O expansion carrier adopts standard 6U double-height VME rack mount structure. It draws power from the VME backplane. LED indicators display power and peripheral status for convenient on-site inspection. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 65°C, storage temperature ranges from -40°C to +85°C, relative humidity 5% to 95% non-condensing. It complies with industrial shock, vibration and EMC standards and has CE certifications. It supports I/O address and interrupt configuration backup for fast recovery after hardware replacement.

This XYCOM XVME-956 expansion carrier is widely applied in legacy VME control racks and industrial automation upgrade projects. It provides flexible PC/104 expansion channels for matching PC/AT VME single board computers to expand network, storage, serial port and memory functions. As a reliable discontinued spare part, the XYCOM XVME-956 retains original PC/AT bus timing and submodule compatibility, and effectively reduces the renovation cost of legacy industrial control system maintenance.
