Product Details
The XYCOM XVME-490/1 is a discontinued 6U VMEbus quad serial communication module, designed for XYCOM legacy VME control racks and compact industrial automation systems. It shares the same core circuit design as the XVME-400, but all four serial channels are routed through the VME P2 backplane connector instead of front panel connectors, which saves front panel space for chassis that require rear wiring layout. This module adopts two Zilog Z8530 SCC serial controllers and provides four independent RS-232C serial channels. Each channel supports asynchronous, byte-synchronous and bit-oriented communication modes, with independent baud rate generators and complete modem control signals including RTS, CTS, DCD and DTR. The asynchronous baud rate can reach up to 57.6 kbaud, and synchronous communication supports up to 500 kbaud, which can connect with serial instruments, barcode readers, operator terminals and other RS232 peripherals. It works as a VME slave device following IEEE 1014 standard, occupying 1K short I/O address space, and supports all seven VME interrupt levels with up to 16 separate interrupt vectors for transmit, receive and error events. Users can configure base address, interrupt level and address modifier code via on-board jumpers and DIP switches to avoid address and interrupt conflicts with other VME modules installed in the same chassis. The on-board ESD protection and transient suppression circuits reduce the impact of electromagnetic interference from inverters and servo drives, ensuring stable serial data transmission in noisy factory environments. The front panel only keeps simple LED indicators for power status and bus activity, without channel connectors, which is suitable for sealed cabinet and densely arranged VME chassis applications. The PCB adopts industrial-grade electronic components and reliable EMC protection design, capable of resisting vibration, dust and temperature fluctuation in machining workshops, power stations and chemical process plants. This legacy backplane-wired RS232 serial module is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for existing XYCOM VME automation systems. Users need to confirm VME chassis P2 backplane compatibility, bus address allocation and rear serial wiring definition before installation. A conformal coated version is optional for high humidity, dusty and corrosive industrial sites. This model is widely used in embedded test systems, cabinet integrated serial communication, process monitoring equipment and old VME RS232 serial control system retrofit projects.
This quad serial communication module adopts standard 6U VME rack mount structure. It draws power from the VME backplane. LED indicators display power status and bus activity for convenient on-site inspection. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 50°C, storage temperature ranges from -40°C to 85°C, relative humidity 5% to 95% non-condensing. It complies with industrial shock, vibration and EMC standards and has CE certifications. It supports baud rate, interrupt and address configuration backup for fast recovery after hardware replacement.
This XYCOM XVME-490/1 serial communication module is widely applied in legacy VME control racks and industrial automation upgrade projects. It provides rear-wired multi-channel RS232 serial communication for the VME master control system. As a reliable discontinued spare part, the XYCOM XVME-490/1 retains original VME bus timing and serial protocol compatibility, and effectively reduces the renovation cost of legacy industrial control system maintenance.
