Product Details

The XYCOM XVME-401, PN 74400-002, is a discontinued single-height 3U VMEbus quad serial I/O module, designed for XYCOM legacy VME control racks and long-distance industrial multidrop communication systems. Unlike the RS232-based XVME-400, this board provides four independent RS-422A / RS-485 serial ports routed through front panel connectors, built around two Zilog Z8530 SCC serial controllers. Each channel is fully programmable and supports asynchronous, byte-synchronous and bit-oriented communication protocols, with independent baud rate generators and complete modem control signals including RTS, CTS, DCD and DTR. Asynchronous baud rate reaches up to 57.6 kbaud, while synchronous communication can run up to 500 kbaud, making it suitable for multi-drop networks with multiple slave devices on one serial bus. This module acts as a reliable communication bridge between the VME master CPU and remote field sensors, operator panels, drives, barcode readers and serial instruments, exchanging control commands and process status data across longer wiring distances. It complies with IEEE 1014 VMEbus standard and operates as an A16:D08(O) VME slave device, supporting all seven VME interrupt levels and separate interrupt vectors for transmit, receive and error events. Users can configure base address, interrupt level and channel operating parameters via on-board jumpers and DIP switches to avoid address and interrupt conflicts with other VME modules installed in the same chassis. Differential signaling of RS-422 and RS-485 delivers strong immunity against common-mode noise and electromagnetic interference from inverters and servo motors, which is critical for noisy factory environments. Built-in surge suppression and ESD protection circuits further protect the transceivers from transient voltage spikes on field cables. The front panel is equipped with LED indicators for power status, bus activity and per-channel communication status, helping maintenance technicians quickly locate wiring faults, signal attenuation and communication timeout issues during commissioning and routine inspection. The PCB adopts industrial-grade electronic components and reliable EMC protection design, capable of resisting vibration, dust and temperature fluctuation in machining workshops, power stations and chemical process plants. This legacy multi-drop serial communication module is mainly supplied as spare replacement parts for existing XYCOM VME automation systems. Users need to confirm VME chassis compatibility, bus address allocation and serial bus termination settings before installation. A conformal coated version is optional for high humidity, dusty and corrosive industrial sites. This model is widely used in distributed process monitoring, conveyor network control, remote serial instrument connection and old VME multi-drop serial control system retrofit projects.

This quad serial communication module adopts standard 3U single-height VME rack mount structure. It draws power from the VME backplane. LED indicators display power status, bus activity and channel communication status for convenient on-site inspection. The operating temperature range is 0°C to 50°C, storage temperature ranges from -40°C to 85°C, relative humidity 5% to 95% non-condensing. It complies with industrial shock, vibration and EMC standards and has CE certifications. It supports baud rate, interrupt and address configuration backup for fast recovery after hardware replacement.

This XYCOM XVME-401 serial communication module is widely applied in legacy VME control racks and industrial automation upgrade projects. It provides robust multi-channel RS422/RS485 differential serial communication for multi-drop field networks under the VME master control system. As a reliable discontinued spare part, the XYCOM XVME-401 retains original VME bus timing and serial protocol compatibility, and effectively reduces the renovation cost of legacy industrial control system maintenance.
