The XYCOM XVME-224 is a discontinued 6U VMEbus opto-isolated digital output module, designed for XYCOM legacy VME control racks and heavy-duty industrial discrete automation systems. It provides 32 isolated output channels, each rated for 24VDC field load with 0.5A sink current capacity, which is higher than the XVME-220 model, suitable for driving larger inductive and resistive field loads. Optical isolation separates the VME bus logic circuit from the field side, offering robust protection against ground loops, voltage transients and surge noise generated by inverters, servo motors and contactors on the production site. Built-in freewheeling diode and transient suppression components protect the circuit when switching solenoid valves, relays, contactors and alarm lamps. The module supports readback of output status via software, allowing the host CPU to verify the actual switching state of each channel for safety interlock and fault diagnosis. It operates as a standard VME slave device, supporting byte and word access cycles. Users can configure base address through on-board DIP switches and jumpers to avoid address conflicts with other VME modules installed in the same rack. All outputs are set to OFF state automatically during power-up and reset to guarantee safe startup condition.
