Woodward 5437-081 belongs to the ProTech-GII overspeed protection series. It is a dedicated safety monitoring module for steam turbines, gas turbines, compressors and other rotating prime mover equipment. It focuses on independent overspeed detection and trip protection, separate from the normal speed governor control loop of the unit.

This module receives speed pulse signals from magnetic pickup sensors. It continuously compares the actual rotating speed with the preset overspeed threshold. Once the rotating speed exceeds the safe limit, it will immediately trigger hard trip output to shut down the rotating machinery and avoid catastrophic overspeed accidents.

It supports 2-out-of-3 voting logic configuration for high safety integrity. Multiple independent detection channels work separately, which greatly reduces the risk of false trip or failure to trip caused by single-point component failure.
