Product Details:
Woodward 5421-178 is a microprocessor-based 505E digital turbine controller, designed for double extraction steam turbine units. It supports three independent closed control loops, including turbine shaft speed control, generator load control and two extraction header pressure control. It uses mature decoupling control logic to reduce the mutual interference between different control loops. The turbine can keep stable power generation output while providing two different pressure levels of process steam for the production line.
This controller receives speed pulse signals from magnetic pickups, 4-20mA analog signals of pressure, temperature and flow, as well as dry contact discrete trip and interlock feedback signals from field safety switches. It outputs three independent actuator drive signals to control the main steam valve, the first extraction valve and the second extraction valve respectively. The valve opening will be adjusted dynamically according to the deviation between actual process value and setpoint, so as to maintain balanced steam distribution inside the turbine system.
The front panel is fitted with a two-line 24-character LCD display and membrane function keypad. Operators can set startup acceleration ramp, idle speed, rated speed, dual extraction pressure setpoints and alarm limits on site. They can also check first-out fault records and complete local start, stop and reset operations directly.
It comes with abundant configurable I/O resources, covering multi-channel analog inputs, analog outputs, discrete inputs and discrete outputs. It can connect emergency trip devices, lubricating oil pressure switches, vibration transmitters and safety interlock relays. It supports RS232 and RS422 serial communication under Modbus protocol, achieving bidirectional data interaction with DCS and SCADA systems for remote monitoring, parameter adjustment and remote operation commands.
It has built-in independent overspeed protection logic and multi-dimensional hardware self-diagnosis function. It can identify abnormal conditions such as lost speed signal, actuator feedback deviation, module power failure and internal hardware fault. The controller will trigger alarm and safe trip actions following preset logic to prevent turbine over-speed and over-pressure damage.
It adopts standard panel mounting structure, which fits installation in turbine local control cabinet and central control room. It is widely applied in petrochemical, chemical, paper and cogeneration projects equipped with double extraction steam turbines. It is used for control system upgrading, old governor renovation and spare parts replacement. It is a reliable multi-variable control solution for double extraction turbine applications.
