Woodward 5415-816 is a microprocessor-based 505E digital turbine controller for single-valve steam turbines and prime mover units without extraction or admission pressure control loops. It acts as the core closed-loop regulation unit, responsible for turbine automatic startup, acceleration ramp, constant speed control, constant load control and safe shutdown sequence management. This controller receives speed pulse signals from magnetic pickups, standard 4-20mA analog setpoint signals and discrete interlock contact signals from field switches, then outputs drive signals to hydraulic actuators to adjust steam or fuel valve opening, stabilizing turbine rotating speed and generator active power output. The front panel integrates a two-line 24-character LCD display and membrane keypad. Operators can configure startup parameters, idle speed, rated speed, alarm limits, view first-out fault records and perform local start-stop and reset operations directly on site. It is equipped with abundant configurable I/O resources, including analog input channels, analog output channels, discrete inputs and discrete outputs, which can connect lube oil pressure switches, vibration monitors, trip relays and auxiliary interlock devices. It supports RS232 and RS422 serial communication based on Modbus protocol, realizing bidirectional data exchange with DCS and SCADA systems for remote monitoring, remote setpoint modification and remote control command reception. It integrates independent overspeed protection logic and comprehensive hardware self-diagnosis function. It can detect speed signal loss, actuator feedback deviation, module power failure and internal hardware abnormality, trigger alarm and safe trip action according to preset protection sequence to prevent turbine overspeed damage. It adopts standard panel mounting structure, suitable for installation in turbine local control cabinet and central control room. It is widely used in power generation, petrochemical and chemical automation projects, for turbine-driven pumps, compressors and generator sets, new unit construction, old mechanical governor transformation and spare parts replacement.
