Woodward 5405-818 is a microprocessor-driven 505E digital turbine controller for single-valve steam turbines, gas turbines and engine prime movers. It performs closed-loop speed regulation, load control, startup sequencing and shutdown management for turbine units without extraction or admission pressure loops. This controller receives speed pulse signals from magnetic pickups, 4-20mA analog setpoint signals and discrete interlock contact signals from field switches, then outputs drive signals to hydraulic actuators to adjust the fuel or steam valve opening and stabilize rotating speed and generator load. The built-in front HMI adopts a two-line 24-character LCD screen and membrane keypad, supporting local parameter setup, setpoint adjustment, real-time variable monitoring and alarm history query. It comes with abundant configurable I/O resources, including analog input channels, analog output channels, discrete input and discrete output points, which can connect trip relays, lube oil pressure switches, vibration monitors and auxiliary interlock equipment. It supports RS232 and RS422 serial communication based on Modbus protocol, enabling two-way data exchange with DCS and SCADA systems for remote monitoring, parameter modification and remote command transmission. It integrates complete overspeed protection logic and hardware self-diagnosis functions, which can detect speed signal loss, actuator feedback deviation, module power failure and internal hardware faults, trigger alarm and safe trip actions following preset protection sequence to prevent unit overspeed damage. It adopts panel mounting form and is suitable for installation in local turbine control cabinets and central control rooms. It is widely used in small and medium-sized power generation, petrochemical and chemical projects, for single-valve steam turbine drive pumps, compressors and generator sets, new unit construction, old mechanical governor retrofitting and spare parts replacement.
