Woodward 5403-977 is the upgraded 505E digital turbine controller, specially engineered for extraction and admission steam turbine units, compared with 5403-975 single-valve 505E model. It can independently regulate turbine speed, generator load and extraction/admission steam pressure at the same time, supporting complex control loops for steam supply balance between production process and power generation. This controller collects speed pulse signals from magnetic pickups, pressure, temperature and flow analog signals, as well as trip and interlock discrete status signals. It outputs independent drive signals for two hydraulic actuators to adjust main steam valve and extraction/admission valve opening separately, realizing decoupled control of shaft speed and extraction steam pressure. The front panel integrates two-line 24-character LCD screen and function keypad, operators can set startup ramp rate, idle and rated speed, pressure setpoints, alarm thresholds, check historical alarm records and execute local start-stop operation directly on site. It carries abundant configurable I/O resources including multiple analog inputs, analog outputs, discrete inputs and discrete outputs, which can connect turbine trip system, lubricating oil pressure switches, vibration monitors and auxiliary interlock devices. It supports RS232 and RS422 serial communication with Modbus protocol, realizing two-way data exchange with DCS, SCADA and upper monitoring system for remote parameter setting, trend viewing and remote control command receiving. It is equipped with complete first-out fault recording and overspeed protection logic, it can monitor speed signal loss, actuator deviation, power failure and internal hardware abnormality, trigger alarm and safe trip action according to preset protection sequence, avoiding equipment damage caused by abnormal working conditions. It adopts standard panel mounting structure, suitable for installation in turbine local cabinet and central control room. It is widely used in petrochemical, chemical, paper making and cogeneration plants with extraction steam turbines, applied for new unit construction, old governor retrofitting and spare replacement.
