The CBR-3 is a communication bridge module originally developed by Moore and incorporated under the Siemens APACS+ DCS platform. It acts as a dedicated gateway between the ACMx rack high-speed backplane bus and external communication networks, enabling data exchange between the APACS+ rack controllers and third-party HMI, SCADA or auxiliary control devices. It undertakes protocol conversion and data forwarding work, which frees the main processor from heavy communication transmission tasks and stabilizes the real-time performance of process control loops.

It is installed in the standard ACMx rack slot and communicates with ACM and CCMx processors through the rack system bus. The module supports continuous monitoring of both rack bus side and external communication link status. Once a link interruption or data packet error is detected, it will trigger front panel fault indicators and send alarm messages to the system HMI. This bridge module cannot execute PID control logic or collect field I/O signals, and it cannot be replaced by regular ACM controllers or analog/digital I/O cards.

The PCB board adopts conformal coating to resist condensation and light corrosive vapors in refinery and chemical plant control rooms. Status LEDs on the front panel display rack bus activity, external communication link status and module fault information for convenient on-site inspection. Hot swap is available only under specific rack configuration, and process risk assessment must be completed before online replacement.

Most stocked units are surplus modules recovered from decommissioned APACS+ racks and fully tested. Before commissioning, technicians need to confirm the communication protocol and baud rate matching the external host system, and finish communication interconnection testing after installation. Mismatched protocol parameters will lead to complete data transmission failure.
