Details

Product Details:

The SEW BW033-012 braking resistor is a flat-pack dynamic braking resistor originally designed for SEW MOVIDRIVE MDX61B, MD60A, MOVITRAC B and MOVIPRO series drives, with a nominal resistance of 33.3 ohms and continuous braking power of 12kW under 100% duty cycle. It can withstand high peak regenerative power under short braking cycles, and it is suitable for heavy-duty four-quadrant working conditions such as lowering loads, frequent rapid deceleration and emergency stop. This flat structure model is the base version without built-in thermal contact, so users need to configure an external thermal protection relay in the control circuit according to machine safety requirements to realize over-temperature interlock protection, preventing thermal runaway and permanent damage to the resistor core under continuous heavy braking cycles.

The internal structure adopts high-quality alloy resistance wire winding and high-temperature inorganic insulation filling material. It can keep stable resistance value within the ±10% tolerance range under repeated thermal shock and instantaneous high-current impact, and it has excellent long-term anti-aging performance for intermittent braking cycles. The flat metal housing adopts natural convection heat dissipation design, which can be installed flat inside the electrical cabinet to save cabinet space. It connects directly to the braking chopper terminals of the matched SEW drive. The drive’s built-in monitoring logic can detect open circuit and short circuit faults of the braking loop. If the resistance winding burns open, suffers short-circuit damage, or the connecting cable is broken, the drive will lose the energy dissipation channel. The DC bus voltage will rise sharply during deceleration, the equipment cannot complete fast stop and load descending actions normally, and the control system will trigger overvoltage fault alarm and safety interlock shutdown.

This braking resistor adopts IP65 protection grade, equipped with heavy-duty threaded power terminals for stable high-current wiring connection. The working ambient temperature range is 0℃ to 55℃, and the storage temperature range is -20℃ to 70℃. The surface temperature of the flat housing will rise rapidly during continuous braking operation. Enough heat dissipation clearance must be reserved around the installation position, and cables, wire ducts and other electrical components cannot cover the heat dissipation surface to avoid heat accumulation. When matching this resistor with a SEW drive, it is necessary to strictly follow the minimum braking resistance limit of the internal braking chopper to prevent damage to the IGBT braking unit caused by excessively low resistance value.

This SEW BW033-012 braking resistor is widely used as maintenance replacement spare parts for heavy-duty material conveyors, large packaging production lines, printing and converting machines, medium and large lifting hoisting equipment and other automation systems that require stable high-power frequent braking. Most spare parts circulating on the global industrial spare parts market are fully tested refurbished stock. Before installation, technicians need to check whether the flat shell is deformed, burnt or cracked, and use a multimeter to measure the resistance value to confirm that it is within the standard tolerance range. After wiring, complete high-speed deceleration and load descending running tests to verify the stability of DC bus voltage during braking. Regular cleaning of dust and debris accumulated on the radiator surface and inspection of terminal tightness can effectively reduce the risk of overheating damage and extend the service life of the braking resistor and the matched drive system.
