Product Details:
The SEW BW018-035 braking resistor is an original grid-style dynamic braking resistor designed for SEW MOVIDRIVE MDX61B, MD60A and MOVITRAC B series frequency inverters and servo drives. Its resistance value is 18 ohms and the continuous braking power at 100% cdf is 3.5kW. It has excellent overload capacity for cyclic braking duty: 5.9kW under 50% cdf, 10.5kW under 25% cdf, 15.7kW under 12% cdf and 26.6kW under 6% cdf. This base model BW018-035 does not integrate a built-in thermal contact switch, which means users need to configure an external thermal protection relay in the wiring circuit according to the safety requirements of the machine to achieve over-temperature interlock protection. It is specially used for converting the regenerative electric energy generated by the motor during rapid deceleration, emergency stop and load lowering into heat energy, suppressing the sharp rise of DC bus voltage of the drive and avoiding frequent overvoltage protection faults in four-quadrant working conditions.
This braking resistor adopts high-quality alloy resistance wire winding structure and high-temperature inorganic insulating filler inside. It can keep stable resistance value within ±10% tolerance under repeated thermal shock and instantaneous high-current impact, and has good anti-aging performance under long-term intermittent braking cycles. The metal grid shell adopts natural convection heat dissipation design, which is convenient for installation inside the electrical cabinet. It is connected to the braking chopper terminals of the matched SEW inverter. The drive’s internal monitoring logic can detect open circuit and short circuit faults of the braking loop. If the resistance winding burns open, short-circuits or the connecting cable is damaged, the drive will lose the channel for regenerative energy dissipation, the DC bus voltage will surge instantly during deceleration, the equipment cannot complete fast stop and load descending actions normally, and the control system will trigger fault alarm and safety interlock stop.
This resistor adopts IP20 protection grade, equipped with heavy-duty threaded power terminals for stable high-current wiring connection. The working ambient temperature range is 0℃ to 55℃, and the storage temperature range is -20℃ to 70℃. The surface temperature of the grid shell will rise obviously during continuous braking operation, so sufficient heat dissipation space must be reserved around the installation position. Cables, cable ducts and other electrical components cannot cover the heat dissipation grid to avoid heat accumulation and accelerated aging of the resistance core. When matching with the SEW drive, it is necessary to strictly follow the minimum braking resistance limit of the internal braking chopper to prevent damage to the IGBT braking unit caused by too low resistance.
This SEW BW018-035 braking resistor is widely used as maintenance replacement spare parts for medium and heavy-duty material conveyors, packaging production lines, printing and converting equipment, small and medium lifting hoisting machinery and other automation equipment requiring stable frequent braking. Most spare parts circulating on the global industrial spare parts market are fully tested refurbished units. Before installation, technicians need to check whether the grid shell is deformed, burnt or cracked, and use a multimeter to measure the resistance value to confirm that it is within the standard tolerance range. After wiring, complete high-speed deceleration and load descending running tests to verify the stability of DC bus voltage during braking. Regular cleaning of dust accumulated on the heat dissipation grid and inspection of terminal tightness can effectively reduce the risk of overheating damage and extend the service life of the braking resistor and the supporting drive system.
