Product Details:
NI GPIB-140A is a fiber optic GPIB extender designed for IEEE 488 instrument control systems, and this fiber optic extender provides reliable isolated instrument communication to break the traditional distance limit of copper GPIB cables. It converts standard GPIB electrical signals into optical signals for transmission, which eliminates ground loop noise and potential voltage difference risks between separated test equipment. It is widely used for remote instrument control, high voltage test stations, EMC test laboratories, distributed measurement benches, aerospace component verification and production line automated calibration. Users can operate it seamlessly with LabVIEW, NI TestStand and NI-488.2 driver, no modification is required for existing GPIB test programs, which simplifies the deployment of long-distance test link.
Key specifications and parameters: It supports HS488 high-speed transmission protocol, maximum data transfer rate reaches 2.2 MB/s. The fiber transmission distance can extend up to 1 km when matched with GPIB T7 fiber cable. It provides high electrical isolation between local and remote GPIB buses, which protects controllers and precision instruments from surge damage. The onboard buffer includes 1Kbyte SRAM and 512×9 bit FIFO memory for stable packet forwarding. It is compatible with all IEEE 488.1 and IEEE 488.2 compliant instruments, including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, signal generators, power supplies and spectrum analyzers. The power input range is 100–240 VAC auto-ranging, typical power consumption is 8 W, maximum 12 W. The operating temperature range is 0 ℃ to 55 ℃, storage temperature -20 ℃ to 70 ℃, 10%–90% non-condensing humidity. It supports DIN rail mounting for cabinet installation, and status LED indicators help users check power, link and communication status quickly. A complete extension system needs a pair of GPIB-140A units to build bidirectional optical fiber communication.
This instrument communication extender is an end-of-life legacy NI hardware. We supply fully inspected and tested refurbished units for replacement and reconstruction of old automated test systems. It is widely selected in semiconductor testing, automotive EMC labs, military product validation, metrology calibration rooms and industrial quality inspection. As a professional fiber optic GPIB extension unit, it keeps stable GPIB bus handshake and instrument interaction over long separation distances.
