Product Details:
NI 9505 is a C Series brushed DC motor drive module exclusively built for CompactRIO platforms, and this brushed dc motor drive integrates a full H-bridge power stage, quadrature encoder interface and built-in current sensing circuit to support fpga servo motion control for small DC servo motors and actuators. It reads differential encoder A, B and Z index signals to achieve closed-loop position, velocity and torque regulation, and the current sensor feeds back real-time motor current for custom PID and current limiting logic inside LabVIEW FPGA single-cycle timed loops. It is widely used for small robotic joint control, automated positioning stages, laboratory motion test benches, packaging actuator control, educational mechatronics development, valve positioning and prototype servo validation. Engineers can deploy trajectory planning, position profiling and fault protection with LabVIEW FPGA and NI SoftMotion module, and the encoder feedback enables stable quadrature encoder tracking for precise motion positioning.
Key specifications and parameters: 30 VDC maximum motor supply voltage, continuous output current reaches 5 A at 40 ℃ and 1 A at 70 ℃. The onboard H-bridge supports bidirectional rotation and dynamic braking. The 9-pin D-SUB connector accepts differential quadrature encoder signals, includes 5 V encoder power supply and dedicated E-stop input for safety interlock. A separate 4-pin screw terminal block provides motor power and motor wiring. The integrated current monitor samples winding current for torque control, with 0.0062 A/LSB scaling factor. Built-in protection covers overvoltage, undervoltage, short circuit and over-temperature, and four status LEDs indicate power, motor supply, drive disable and fault alarm. The module supports hot swap on CompactRIO backplane, and FPGA clock is limited to 80 MHz or lower for reliable timing operation. The operating temperature range is -40 ℃ to 70 ℃, storage temperature -40 ℃ to 85 ℃, 10%–90% non-condensing humidity. The optional NI 9931 terminal accessory can upgrade the module to higher current rating for heavier load demands.
This h-bridge current sensing motion module is an end-of-life legacy NI hardware. We supply fully inspected and tested refurbished units for replacement and reconstruction of existing CompactRIO servo systems. It can work with other C Series analog acquisition and digital I/O modules to build multi-axis motion and measurement platforms. It is widely adopted in university robotics labs, industrial automation prototype development, aerospace ground test equipment and small precision positioning systems. As a compact FPGA-based DC servo drive, it delivers flexible closed-loop motion control for custom automation and test projects.
