NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS cFP-2220 is the top model of the cFP-22xx series Compact FieldPoint real-time controller, equipped with 400 MHz Freescale MPC5200 PowerPC processor, running VxWorks real-time operating system for LabVIEW RT standalone industrial measurement and control. It is configured with 256 MB SDRAM and 256 MB onboard flash memory, integrated dual 10/100 Mbps auto-negotiation Ethernet ports, three RS-232 serial ports and one isolated RS-485/422 port. It carries one USB 1.1 port and CompactFlash slot for removable storage and program backup, also with 2-channel local digital input and 2-channel local digital output. It supports all cFP series I/O modules including analog input, analog output, digital I/O, thermocouple and RTD modules. The operating temperature range is -40℃ to 70℃ for extended version, suitable for harsh industrial and mobile field environments. It integrates hardware watchdog and built-in self-diagnosis function, supports web server and FTP server for remote front panel access and file transfer. The power supply range is 11–30 VDC with dual redundant power input, supports panel mounting and rack mounting. This legacy industrial controller is end-of-life, available stock are refurbished replacement spares for vintage industrial automation systems.

This real-time controller can run standalone LabVIEW RT programs, suitable for redundant network deployment, multi-bus communication, complex control algorithms and large-capacity continuous data logging. Users can download embedded applications, configure network parameters and I/O mapping through NI MAX. Dual Ethernet ports support network redundancy or separate control and office network isolation. It communicates with upper computer via TCP/IP and Modbus TCP, RS485 supports Modbus RTU to connect field instruments. It can cooperate with multiple cFP I/O modules to build distributed control nodes. Compared with cFP-2200 and cFP-2210, it adds dual network, more serial channels, USB and local DIO, which is the most powerful controller in the 2200 series. It is a programmable RT PAC controller, not a simple communication gateway like cFP-1804 and cFP-1808.

It adopts compact industrial metal housing, powered by external 11–30 VDC dual redundant power supply. Front panel with two RJ45 Ethernet ports, multiple serial ports, USB port, CompactFlash socket, local DIO terminals and status LED indicators for power, run, fault and network. Hot swap of I/O modules is supported, power off is recommended when replacing the whole controller unit or CompactFlash card. The structure meets industrial shock, vibration and EMC requirements for cabinet and panel installation.
