Product Details:
MOTOROLA MVME162-243 belongs to MVME162LX series 6U VMEbus single board computer, equipped with MC68LC040 25MHz 32-bit processor, 8KB on-chip cache and MMU, without integrated hardware FPU. This variant is configured with 8MB ECC DRAM, 128KB battery-backed SRAM, four EIA-232-D serial ports, onboard narrow SCSI controller and 10Mbps Ethernet transceiver, paired with dual IndustryPack expansion slots. It integrates 1MB flash memory for firmware storage, battery-backed real-time clock, multi-channel tick timers and hardware watchdog circuit. The built-in MVME162Bug monitor supports serial console debugging, memory verification and boot parameter setup. This legacy embedded board is end-of-life, available stock are refurbished replacement spares for vintage VME automation racks.
This SBC can act as VMEbus master or slave and supports A16/A24/A32 addressing and D8/D16/D32 data transfer with interrupt management. It adopts ECC error correction memory architecture to avoid data corruption during long-cycle industrial operation. It integrates SCSI local storage and Ethernet communication, supporting local process data caching and remote host data transmission simultaneously. Users can install IndustryPack mezzanine modules to add analog or digital signal acquisition channels according to different project demands. Optimized PCB trace layout suppresses electromagnetic noise interference from servo drives and heavy industrial cabinet environments. It runs stably with VxWorks and other classic real-time operating systems.
It adopts standard 6U eurocard mechanical specification and draws +5V, ±12V power supply from the VME backplane. Front panel carries serial connectors and status LED indicators, and the P2 rear connector routes Ethernet, SCSI and mezzanine signals to transition boards. Hot swap operation is not supported; power supply must be shut down before installation or removal. The PCB and soldering assembly meet industrial shock and vibration criteria for cabinet mounting.
It is widely deployed in high-reliability continuous process monitoring stations and legacy test systems requiring larger ECC memory, storage and network upload. Typical application scenarios include VME rack auxiliary CPU replacement, high-reliability data acquisition system maintenance and automation platform retrofit. Automation integrators select this Motorola MVME162-243 for its MC68LC040, 25MHz 8MB ECC DRAM configuration, four EIA-232-D serial ports, SCSI, Ethernet and dual IndustryPack slots.
