MODICON MBP-30 is a modular excitation and tension control module belonging to the legacy AEG Modicon automation family. It is widely used in winding, unwinding and web handling equipment such as printing lines, slitting machines, film and paper processing machinery to provide stable closed-loop tension regulation for material webs. This module outputs excitation signal for magnetic particle brakes and magnetic clutches, receiving feedback from tension sensors and roll diameter calculation signals to automatically adjust output current and maintain constant web tension during speed variation and roll diameter change. It adopts standard plug-in rack mounting structure and communicates with the host PLC through backplane bus, receiving setpoint commands and uploading real-time tension status and fault information to the main controller. The front panel is equipped with LED indicators for power, run status, excitation output and fault alarm, which allows field technicians to quickly check working conditions and complete troubleshooting. Integrated EMC filtering and surge suppression circuits protect internal control circuits from voltage spikes and electromagnetic interference generated by drives, contactors and other heavy power devices on the production floor. It also integrates hardware protections including overcurrent, short circuit and output overload to prevent damage to the module and magnetic brake. As an obsolete original industrial spare part, it is used for maintenance and retrofit of aging web processing and tension control automation systems.
