MODICON AS-S985-022 is the S985 Modbus Plus network adapter card designed for the classic Modicon 984 rack PLC system. It acts as a high-speed peer-to-peer communication gateway, connecting the host 984 controller into the Modbus Plus industrial network to realize data exchange between multiple PLC stations, remote I/O, operator panels, SCADA hosts and other Modbus Plus compatible field devices. This plug-in communication board exchanges data with the rack CPU through the local backplane bus, supporting the MSTR instruction for message transmission, register read and write, and peer data sharing among network nodes. It supports standard Modbus Plus baud rate and network media specification, and allows up to 64 nodes on a single network segment with proper repeater configuration. The front panel carries dedicated LED indicators for power, network activity, token rotation and fault status, so maintenance engineers can quickly judge network health, token loss, collision and communication timeout on site. Integrated EMC filtering and surge suppression circuits protect the network transceiver circuit from voltage spikes and electromagnetic interference generated by inverters, contactors and heavy power loads on production lines. It supports software configuration of node address and communication parameters through ProWORX or Modsoft, without hardware jumper modification for most routine setups. As an obsolete original industrial spare part, it is widely used for maintenance and retrofit of legacy Modicon 984 distributed automation systems. Direct drop-in replacement keeps the existing Modbus Plus network wiring, node address assignment, MSTR logic and backplane layout unchanged, and cuts system debugging time and production downtime.
