FOXBORO FBM214 and FBM216 are 8-channel group-isolated HART analog input fieldbus modules of FOXBORO Compact 200 I/A Series DCS. The field communication interface only supports HART FSK protocol (HART 5,6,7), working on 4-20mA current loops. They can read analog measurement value and digital HART diagnostic parameters from HART smart transmitters, and also collect pure 4-20mA signals from conventional analog instruments without digital protocol. No other open fieldbus protocols like Modbus, Profibus or Foundation Fieldbus are available on field channels. The internal backplane adopts Foxboro proprietary 2Mbps redundant module fieldbus to exchange data with FCP controller. Each channel provides built-in loop power supply for two-wire field transmitters, with high precision sigma-delta ADC for stable current conversion. The PCB is conformal coated to resist vibration, dust, humidity and electromagnetic interference in harsh industrial environments. Built-in continuous self-diagnosis detects loop open circuit, short circuit and transmitter fault alarms. FBM214 is standard non-redundant version, FBM216 supports master-tracker redundant pair deployment. Both models support hot swap and are widely used for DCS maintenance, spare parts replacement and system retrofit projects. Every FOXBORO FBM214 / FBM216 module passes factory testing and calibration before shipment.

FBM214 and FBM216 share identical field communication capability. The only field digital protocol supported is HART, and they cannot directly interface with Modbus or Profibus field devices. FBM216 is designed for redundant I/A DCS control loops while FBM214 is used for common measurement points. They can use the same FTA termination assembly and shielded cable. They are widely used for pressure, flow and level HART instrument acquisition in petrochemical and power plants, and serve as spare replacement for legacy FBM214 / FBM216 HART input cards on I/A DCS systems.
