FANUC A05B-2490 series is the classic generation handheld teach pendant platform for FANUC R-J3iB robot controllers, covering multiple suffix variants such as C172 for arc welding, C200 for spot welding, C371 for material handling. Different suffix versions are equipped with different overlay key layouts and preset shortcut menus to match arc welding, spot welding, palletizing and machine tending processes. It connects to the R-J3iB robot cabinet via a dedicated teach pendant cable, serving as the portable HMI for on-site jogging, TP program creation, process parameter setting, alarm diagnosis and system backup. It is an earlier mature teach pendant platform before the iPendant series for R-30iA and R-30iB controllers, with unique communication protocol and connector definition, and cannot be directly interchanged with later R-30i series pendants.

This teach pendant integrates color LCD display, membrane function keys, three-position deadman enabling switch and prominent red emergency stop button, complying with industrial robot safety requirements. The three-position enabling switch is the core safety interlock: servo power is enabled only when held at the middle position, and the robot will cut off servo output and stop immediately once the operator releases it fully or squeezes it hard, avoiding unexpected robot movement during teaching. Operators can jog robot axes under joint, world, tool and user coordinate systems, write and modify motion programs, adjust override speed, check servo load, view alarm history, back up robot system files, configure robot discrete I/O signals and finish vision offset teaching for iR Vision. Welding variants add dedicated hotkeys for weld schedule selection, current and time adjustment, greatly simplifying welding recipe debugging.

The heavy-duty handheld housing is fitted with impact-resistant rubber guards, resisting welding fume, spatter, cutting oil mist and metal dust in harsh workshop environments. The membrane keys are designed for frequent repeated operation, maintaining stable tactile feedback after long-term use. The internal communication circuit adopts FANUC proprietary teach pendant bus for stable data interaction with R-J3iB controller. Each variant’s key layout is optimized for its target process, so users can select the matching suffix according to whether the robot station is for arc welding, spot welding or handling.

It serves as a direct replacement spare part for original A05B-2490 teach pendants with screen burnout, touch drift, key sticking, deadman switch failure, emergency stop malfunction and intermittent communication on FANUC R-J3iB robot cells.
